The Risk

Why This Work Fails When Done Wrong

The difference between work that lasts and work that fails early almost always comes down to process, specifically what happens in the preparation and specification stages before the visible work begins.

Chicago Climate

30–40 freeze-thaw cycles. Clay soil. Any shortcut shows up within seasons.

01

Shortcuts on preparation

Skipping critical prep steps saves time on installation day but produces failures within a few seasons.

02

Wrong materials specification

Materials that don't match the application, climate, or substrate will fail ahead of schedule regardless of installation quality.

03

Drainage and moisture ignored

Water management is embedded in every exterior system. Work that doesn't address it creates chronic, recurring failures.

04

Cosmetic fixes over root causes

Addressing symptoms without diagnosing and correcting root causes produces work that looks right and fails on schedule.

How We Work

Our Process

Start Your Project

01

Design & Estimate

We review your project, assess site conditions, and provide a written estimate. New masonry scopes vary, so we need to understand the full project before quoting.

02

Foundation & Footing

New masonry requires a proper footing below frost depth. We form and pour the footing to spec before laying a single brick.

03

Layout & Course Work

The first course sets everything. We lay out the bond pattern, check for plumb and level consistently, and work in lifts that allow mortar to properly set.

04

Finishing Details

Joints are tooled to spec. Ties, weep holes, and flashing are installed where required. We don't skip the details that keep water out.

05

Final Inspection

We walk the completed project with you. New masonry should look right, sit plumb, and be built to last 50+ years.
